Michigan, North Dakota is located in Nelson County in northeastern North Dakota on US Highway 2.  Our location between Grand Forks and Devils Lake makes this a great location to live and work.  The three-hundred forty-five residents, who call Michigan home, enjoy a true American small town lifestyle.

We live in a land that provides four full seasons, beautiful sunsets, the northern lights and a never ending sky!  Hunting, fishing, boating, snowmobiling, golfing, cross country skiing, birding and camping are just a few of the outdoor activities we have to offer.

Agriculture has always been the center of our economy.  The cool wet springs, hot dry summers, rich soil and flat land of North Dakota make this area a prime place to raise many crops.  North Dakota are known for their honesty, strong work ethic and living off the land; however, for our farmers; agriculture is more than a way to make a living - it is a way of life.  Many families have farmed and ranched on the same land their ancestors homesteaded generations ago and strive to keep the tradition alive.

In addition to agricultural our service industry, retail businesses and local manufacturing add strength to our economy.  Local employers and those in surrounding communities provide for a wide array of job opportunities and excellent employment possibilities.

Reasonably priced housing makes this an affordable place to call home, as many have done since our founding fathers established Michigan in 1883.  Several of the homes in our community are large Victorian style homes that date back to those early days.  The most recently built home was completed in 2006 and is located in Forde Addition which is Michigan's newest development area.

The pictures on the bottom of our home page represent the past and the present.  The one on the left is our early business district and the one on the right is our current day Michigan Mall.  We are only one of a few "small towns" to be able to boast that we "have a mall"!

As we look forward with excitement to Michigan's future, plans are underway to celebrate Michigan's 125th anniversary in 2008.  Please check out the celebrations page for more information on the upcoming party on the prairie.  The Chairman's Corner provides insight on what is happening with the planning committee.  Many fantastic souvenirs and clothing items are available along with information on the commemorative rifle raffle.
